"I was referred to C.A.R.E. after 5 years of sacroiliac joint pain and 2 stints of unsuccessfully physical therapy. The result of my treatment there, is that I am finally able to run and engage in normal daily activities virtually pain free."

Sports Injuries: Running

At Chicago Area Rehabilitation Experts, Inc. (C.A.R.E. Physical Therapy), our physical therapists treat a variety of running injuries. Whether you are training for a 5K or a marathon, running places stress on the body with the repetitive motion. This can lead to potential irritation, inflammation, and pain. Common running injuries include:

  • Plantar Fascitis
  • Shin Splints
  • Achilles Tendinitis
  • Patellofemoral Pain
  • Syndrome      (runner's knee)
  • Iliotibial Band (ITB) Syndrome
  • Hamstring Strains
  • Hip Bursitis
  • Low Back Pain

As physical therapists, not only do we manage and treat the symptoms of pain, but we determine the cause of the pain. Because the ankle bone is attached to the knee bone, which is attached to the hip bone, which is attached to the pelvic bone, and so on (we call this the kinetic chain), the cause of the pain can be different than where the pain is located. In order for runners to run pain/injury free it is important that there is a balance between flexibility and strength in all muscle groups. We will help you achieve this balance through hands-on (manual therapy) treatment and tailored functional exercises to return you to running as soon as possible. We offer video analysis of your running gait to further determine the cause of your pain and guide treatment.
