Women's Health

Women's Health is a catch-all phrase that includes any problem that may occur in the female reproductive system.  Physical therapy is a key component of women's health when the problem stems from an imbalance of the muscles, spine, nervous system, etc.

Some diagnoses that may fit into this category include:

  • Stress and/or Urge Urinary incontinence
  • Pelvic pain
  • Vestibulitis
  • Vulvadynia
  • Pre and Post-partum low
  • Back pain

Do you cross your legs before you sneeze?  Do you stake-out restrooms every where you go to shop and have dinner?  Do you "go, just-in-case" before you jump in the car to run an errand?  Do you sleep through the night?

Urinary incontinence is more common than women would care to admit.  Many times it is chalked up to having babies and getting older, though much of it can be resolved and prevented.

Stress Incontinence is dribbling of urine when you cough or sneeze.  When your pelvic floor muscles are too weak or long, the increased pressure in your abdomen from a sneeze or cough overcomes the strength of your pelvic floor muscles and causes urine to leak.  You need stronger pelvic floor muscles.

Urge Incontinence is also the dribbling of urine, though it tends to have triggers (like running water or cold weather) or it limits the amount of time between bathroom trips.  Urge incontinence is also caused by a weakness of the pelvic floor muscles, though there is also a habit and sometimes neurological component.

Whether you have incontinence or any other type of pelvic pain, it is important to have a complete physical therapy evaluation to determine the cause of your problems and to treat them directly and efficiently.

We at C.A.R.E. employ Manaul therapy techniques as well as a tailored functional exercise program to ensure not only short term relief of pain, but long term results including prevention of other injuries.
